ILINIZAS – 17,272 ft
photo credit unknownIlinizas is also known as the “twin mountains” although more
often than not the southern peak is covered with more snow than the northern
peak. Rising temperatures and diminishing rainfall have caused the glaciers to
withdraw significantly over the years.When I was a little girl, I remembered the name of these peaks because they made me think of two bent knees of someone lying down … so I would think “ee-lee-KNEEsocks” and remember Ilinizas (without the “k” there at the end)
