PASOCHOA (elevation 13,776 ft.)

photo credit via linkPasochoa is located only 20 miles from Quito, although reaching
a trailhead takes longer due to the difficult roadways, which are not always
paved. It is a favorite among those looking to acclimatize in preparation of an
attempt at one of Ecuador’s more renowned volcanic summits (Cotopaxi, Cayambe or
Chimborazo), and it is a fairly straightforward walk to the summit, with several
nice viewpoints. It is not very steep, although the last 200 meters of vertical
can be a bit of a challenge for those first arriving in Ecuador.Pasochoa has been inactive since the last ice age. The area is unique in that it
preserves the last of the original forest and other vegetation including an
enormous variety of flowers that once covered the entire Quito basin. Pasochoa
Forest Preserve claims almost a hundred species of birds. This is a good place
to see the sword-billed hummingbird, the viridian metal tail, mountain tanagers,
red crested cotinga, and many more.

I’d sure like to explore that place. In fact, I’d like to explore all of Ecuador.
I have a heard time keeping up with one site…I’m not sure how you do it. But this one is wonderful. I went back as far as I dared as I am at work, but I will be back again soon. This visit to Equador will probably be the only one that I ever make.
Random post – did a search with “border free world” and ended up at your site.
Our idea came out of an effort to overcome boredom with geography – me and some 5th Graders.
Let me know if a border free travel game interests you.
Background at our site if you scroll through.
I need your help! I was accepted to a study abroad program to Ecuador and my boyfriends parents (who are from Ecuador) are very paranoid about me going and guerrila (sorry if thats spelt wrong) warfare. What do you know about this and what can I do while I am there? Any help is really appreciated. If you would care to tell me in something other than a comment, my e-mail is MLJ1201@hotmail.com. Thanks so much!
